Paul Bedard: Boom: FBI gun checks surge 30% amid Biden, Bloomberg gun grab threats

Paul Bedard reports at the Washington Examiner that NICS background checks have surged in the first two months of this year:

Background checks in January and February recorded the highest number ever for the period, said the FBI. In just two months, there have been 5,505,169 checks. Last year, there were 4,218,980 background checks in January and February.

Bloomberg dropped out of the Democratic Presidential Nomination contest today but Biden has already said that if he wins he will put Robert Francis "Hell yes we are going to take your AR-15" O'Rourke in charge of a Biden Administration's gun control efforts.  This could end up being a record year for firearm sales. 

Gun Ban Advocates Depressed as Federal Efforts Have Stalled

The Hill has the story here.  Just one more story talking about in the lead up to the first year after the Newtown shootings, not much has changed related to federal gun control.

The failed push for stronger federal gun control laws after last December’s shooting rampage in Newtown, Conn., has left its proponents in Congress dejected, and leaves one of President Obama’s top policy goals without any clear path forward.

As in other stories, the gun ban lobby points out they made progress on the state level, though most of that was in states that already all but ban firearms. They keep referring to actions being taken in some 21 states, but for the life of me, I can't recall any major gun control being passed except in New York, New Jersey, California, Colorado, Maryland, Delaware, and Connecticut.  With the exception of Colorado, all of those states were already very unfriendly to the rights of law abiding gun owners.

Gun control advocates say the shooting led to important state reforms, and the White House has touted a series of executive actions to curb violence, but congressional Democrats concede the move toward major federal gun reforms is dead, at least for now.

Other than giving lip service to still supporting gun control measures, the White House has pivoted to mental health, which is where they should have been focused in the first place.

Last month, the administration finalized regulations requiring insurers to treat mental illness and addiction the same as physical illnesses. The measure is intended to ensure better access to treatment for the mentally impaired.

“The fact that less than half of children and adults with diagnosable mental health problems receive the treatment they need is unacceptable,” Biden said Tuesday.

Ultimately, administrative actions were small consolation for proponents of stronger federal laws.

Biden opens his mouth simply to change feet. These were comments he made yesterday at the National League of Cities in Washington, D.C. The National League of Cities has called for registration of all handguns and licensing of all firearm owners. Hat Tip to CNS News.

Vacation's Over - Back to Work

After a week of vacation with the family it is time to get back to work to insure that Barrack Obama is not elected the 44th President of the United States. Several hours after returning home, Obama picked Delaware Senator Joseph Biden to be his running mate. Biden is as anti-gun as Obama. He admits to being the first to write an "Assault Weapons" ban.



One has to wonder what Obama's thought processes are. Most of yesterday was devoted to a little known Texas Democratic Congressman named Chet Edwards as a possible running mate for Obama. National Review's Campaign Spot did an excellent job of describing why this would have been a possibly disastrous choice for Obama.

But in the end, he picks Biden, someone who gives Obama "gravitas" on the foreign policy side of the coin but as the McCain campaign was quick to point out, said Obama was not ready to be president.
