Gun Owners Need to Put Rights as First Priority in 2012

The anti-rights media is all a twitter about various references to what may await gun owners if President Obama is re-elected next year. Among them is the Washington Post who, like others, continually point to the fact that Obama signed legislation allowing firearms in national parks as proof that gun owners have nothing to fear. What they don't tell you is that item was a rider on a bill that the president wanted which is why the bill was chosen as the vehicle for the measure in the first place.

The anti-rights media knows that a re-elected Obama has no further elections to win, may appoint one or more supreme court justices, and will most likely use the regulatory process to do what he cannot do legislatively, as he did with EPA rules related to carbon dioxide.

It is in the best interest of gun owners to put our rights at the top of our list of priorities when we vote in 2012.

Volunteers Needed for NRA Annual Meeting

Do you plan to attend the 2011 NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits in Pittsburgh April 27–May 1?  If you are attending and can spare a half-day or more while attending the Annual Meetings, you can assist the NRA staff in making this year’s event one of the best yet! Volunteers are needed in a wide variety of activities including the NRA Store, Membership Services, Airgun Range, Firearm Inspectors, and Exhibitor Registration. The store, in particular, requires lots of manpower; especially needed are volunteers who have cashier experience. Membership Services is a busy place as many members renew or upgrade their memberships. And they will need many NRA-certified instructors to assist young people at the air gun range. There are other opportunities as well.

NRA Freedom Event is Underway

The #NRA Freedom Event at the #AnnualMeetings is in full swing and wow what a crowd. It is pretty clear why they decided to d0 away with the annual banquet. This type of venue offers an opportunity for many more people to attend. Tonights keynote speech will be given by talk show host Glenn Beck. I am sure he will have the crowd on their feet. Wayne LaPierre is kicking things off now.

Sit Down with the Manager of NRA-ILA Hunting Policy

As part of the #AnnualMeetings, bloggers and "new media" writers are sitting down right now with Darren LaSorte, #NRA ILA Manager of Hunting Policy. We are discussing the effect of the growing wolf population in the Rockies and how it is impacting elk and moose populations. We also discussed the bear population in New Jersey. It is vitally important to wildlife that management policies be based on science and not emotion.

Darren also discussed the current movement to pass Right to Hunt amendments in various states. Virginia was one of the first to pass such an amendment in 2000. NRA has been working to pass amendments based on "model" language.
