Biden, White House to Do End Run Around NRA

With the NRA expressing disappointment that all the Obama Administration is talking about are measures that will do nothing to protect our children, Biden and his band of merry men are ready to attempt an end run around the NRA and America's gun owners, reaching out to churches, medical groups, retailers and the Rotary Club to build support for new gun control.  This from Salon via Politico:

Biden has made a point of highlighting the broad diversity of organizations now backing the White House gun efforts, telling the NRA and other gun owner organizations in a meeting Thursday that “all of a sudden there is a different attitude” from groups not previously invested in gun control, according to Richard Feldman, who attended the session and is president of the Independent Firearm Owners Association.

In Biden’s public remarks Thursday, he emphasized the extent of his panel’s outreach to groups from fields including medicine, law, education, mental health, religious groups and social service outlets such as the Kiwanis and Rotary clubs.

I was in a fast food restaurant this morning and had a conversation with some folks on this issue and had to correct a well meaning elderly women who thought that the firearm used in the Newtown shooting was a "machine gun."  She was honestly surprised to learn that it wasn't and that it is very very difficult to purchase such a firearm.

We need to take every opportunity to educate our friends, family members, and acquaintances because they are being fed a crock of crap by the media and the gun ban lobby.

Oh, and apparently, with the demise of the astroturf group American Hunters and Shooters Association, another astroturf group has replaced them, the Independent Firearm Owners Association.
