On Wednesday, October 8th, the Hanover County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on Ordinance No. 08-23 – Amending Hanover County Code Section 24-4 to Prohibit Generally the Discharge of Weapons within the Urban Services Area and within 200 Yards of a Residence or Public Gathering Place Outside of the Urban Services Area. There will also be a hearing on Ordinance No. 08-24 - Amending Hanover County Code Chapter 16 "Noise" to Include a Provision Relating to the Frequent, Habitual or Prolonged Discharge of Firearms and to Clarify the Provisions Related to Enforcement.
Ordinance 08-24 is of special concern as the last information VSSA had on this change was that a judge would determine what was "habitual" if a suit was filed by a citizen against a gun owner shooting on private property. All Hanover County gun owners are encouraged to attend the public hearing. It will be held at 7:00 PM at the Hanover County Administration Building Board Room, 7497 County Complex Rd., Hanover, VA 23069.
