Special Session is Here - Stack of Anti-gun Bills Filed

On the day before today's start of  Governor Northam's gun control special session a large number of bills dropped on the Legislative information system.  The GOP lived up to their promise to focus on criminals who use firearms in the commission of a crime as several bills were introduced to increase mandatory sentences.  And, unfortunately, another Republican, Senate Majority Leader Tommy Norment introduced anti-gun legislation (two bills).  The list of bills and VSSA's position on the bills are below:

  • HB 4001 Right to keep & bear arms; codifies opinion of Supreme Ct. of U.S. in D.C. v. Heller, etc.  VSSA Supports
  • HB 4002 Concealed handguns; carrying with a permit by employees of any agency of the Commonwealth, etc. VSSA Supports
  • HB 4003 Firearms; removal from persons posing substantial risk, penalties. VSSA Opposes
  • HB 4004 Handguns; limitation on purchases, exceptions, penalty. VSSA Opposes
